blue dot muffin cups

pink dot muffin cups

We just can’t get enough of cute muffin cups! These dainty dotted cups sure make me smile.

While they are perfect for a baby shower or birthday, they are also great for a “themed” party, wedding or spring event. Don’t just use them for Muffins and Cupcakes…muffin cups are great for holding, well…really many things. Create an organized box for childrens’ small toys (think doll shoes and accessories). Line the box (a shallow shoe box will do) with muffin cups and place little trinkets inside. Use for holding small hair clips, barretts, and ties.

These little cups also make great candy cups and snack holders, especially if you are hosting a kids’ party.

It’s a new year….new ideas, new chances to get organized and add a little color to the gray winter days.

These and a library full of muffin cups and cupcake wrappers are available at www.fancyflours.com. Visit the link to the muffin cups directly by clicking HERE.

Chinese New Year Cookies

chinese new year wafer paper

Ring in the year of the Ox with these colorful Chinese New Year Cookies. Available in Animal or Zodiac wafer paper designs. Never tried using wafer paper? Do not fear! Wafer Paper is an edible starch based confection, made of potato starch, water and vegetable oil. It has been printed with food safe ink. It is simple, mess free, and creates amazing masterpieces!

To decorate cookies, simply trace the shape of the cookie you wish to decorate with a cookie cutter. The cookie needs to be frosted with buttercream, royal icing or fondant. If applying the design to royal icing, the icing must be completely dry for best results. Simply spread a thin layer of light corn syrup to the back of your paper and then apply to the cookie. To ensure a smooth finish, turn the cookie over, wafer paper side down, on a piece of parchment paper for approximately 30 minutes. To completely dry, turn the cookie design side up for 12 hours. You can add a 3 dimensional effect by adding small sugar pearls, dragees, sugar decorations or edible glitter. To adhere, just use a small dot of clear piping gel. Store in an airtight container.

Blue Floral Scroll Wafer Paper perfect for wintery snowflake cookies

snowflake cookie with blue floral scroll wafer paper

Happy New Year to all!

I just wanted to share with you a fun and new wafer paper design, at fancyflours.com. It is a perfectly wintery blue floral scroll pattern that looks delightful on a snowflake sugar cookie. As always, applying wafer paper is a piece of cake (or cookie!).

Simply bake and cool snowflake cookies as usual. Try our No Fail Sugar Cookie recipe (it is delicious and holds its shape).

Ice each cookie using an icing or frosting of your choice. A frosting or icing that dries hard and smooth will work best for wafer paper. We like Royal Icing Mix

Next use the same cookie cutter you used to cut out your cookie shapes to trace (with a food grade pencil) the shape onto the wafer paper. Carefully use craft scissors to cut out each shape.

Using light corn syrup or edible clear gel use your finger to make a smooth thin layer on the back of each wafer paper cut-out. Affix each cut-out to top of cookie shape.

Flip cookies upside down onto a piece of wax paper (this will ensure the wafer paper dries flat, without wrinkles).

Leave for about 20-30 minutes, then flip right-side up and let continue to dry overnight.

Stack and store in a airtight container.
